The 1640 FOX may be connected to any standard SDH central office system using a point-to-point link, or directly inserted into STM-1 or STM-4 SDH rings.
It operates at a range of speeds – 2Mbps, 34Mbps, 45Mbps, STM-1 and STM-4.
The Alcatel 1640 FOX (Fibre Optic eXtension) is a multi-protocol CPE (customer premises equipment) for optical access applications capable of delivering SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy), Ethernet, GbE, L2-VPN, IP and ATM.
The Alcatel 1640 FOX can act as an ideal multi-protocol transport device between carrier’s and end-customer’s networks. Besides, allowing consolidation of different traffic patterns (TDM, ATM, Ethernet, GbE) into either segregated or shared SDH Virtual Containers (pipes), it performs edge functions such as traffic shaping, policing and QoS guarantees.
